South Australia- Streaky Bay, Speed Point

We arrived at Streaky Bay, S.A. with high hopes. The town is beautiful, set around a calm waterway, complete with recently installed shark safe swimming area. Waking down the pier we met local personalities, a pair of dolphins and a stingray cruising close to shore. The area is well known for it's surfing spots and apparently we'd just missed a well known surfing celebrity by mere days.

Here are some of the surrounding areas... amazing rock formations, where the sea blew through holes in the rock to produce eerie sounds which scared Amelia. But impressive regardless.

We spent a couple of days in some great accommodation preparing for the camping that lay ahead. We explored the area searching for the perfect campsite. And we found one at Speed Point- or so we thought! Set in amongst sand dunes we tried to protect ourselves from the wind.

Plenty of shells to collect and arrange.

 One of the locals!

A happy camper- before the 40 knot winds...

The classic comment from Amelia came at 3am as she joined us in bed... "Daddy why do you like camping?"

Needless to say we packed up fairly smartly as soon as daylight arrived (and we weren't the only ones- a mass evacuation occurred before 7.30am.)
